After a somewhat longer break than planned, we will now start the Champloo Music Podcast series again at regular intervals. We are very pleased that Oskar Offermann has found an already completed mix in the depth of his treasures that we want to present to you..

Oskar Offermann is the mind behind the Berlin House Label WHITE. Now, with nearly 20
publications the label has shown that their claim on their own work is endless. With their hand for aesthetic in design and the good sense for the right groove the label is made to stay in the german house scene.

But it´s not only the label operation and playing records. The thirst for action unfolds in
interdisciplinary projects or own series of events, as in Bar25 or in Horst
Kreuzberg…what most established labels and producers in a city like Berlin forget about,
WHITE does -true to the DIY principle- a platform for especially newcomer and a more innovative interpretation of House.

When he is in action the „beardy sexiest man alive“ focuses to Deep House and Disco.
Rough, raw and groovy, but always with an eye for songs and melodies.

But for now we will let the music speak. Enjoy.

Champloo Music Podcast #10 with ANDY ASH

We’d like to invite you to celebrate our 10th episode of the Champloo Music podcast. This time made by a rising and talented DJ and producer from Liverpool, Andy Ash.

Andy grew up collecting records and DJing since the age of fifteen and cut his teeth warming up playing deep house music around the clubs of Cambridge. Since then Andy has moved to Liverpool and widened his DJ spectrum, he now regularly drops vinyl bombs spanning from afro-beat through to deep house in his DJ sets.
Andy Ash has steadily been bulding his sound over the past few years taking in influences ranging from jazz through to techno. He started off with a small digital release on Five20East (The Revenge’s original label) and has gone on to release multiple original productions, edits and remixes on labels such as On The Prowl, Boogie Originals, FOTO and Kolour Recordings to name a few. Having recently taken on the role of co-runner for Boogie Originals Records expect much more from Andy in the future.

Champloo Music Podcast #09 with CHASING KURT

We are proud to present our 9th Champloo Music Podcast. This time it’s compiled and mixed by Chasing Kurt and made of nothing more than 100% wax.

Chasing Kurt is a new ambitious DeepHouse-project from Gießen, Germany. Behind all this is the crew around Pascal Blanché, Wojtek Kutschke and Lukas Poloczek, who contributes the vocals. Chasing Kurt is a mixture of atmospheric minimal House and steady beats as well as the souly voice of Lukas which gives the music an own distinctive character. Last year his first songs “Daydream” (incl. Pawas remix) on Carry On and “Money” (incl. Tom Ellis remix) on Good Ratio Music were released, whereas “Money” can be found on the latest DJ-Kicks (Mix-CD) by Maya Jane Coles.

Champloo Music Podcast #08 with NILS PENNER

This time our 8th Champloo Music Podcast is made by Nils Penner from Munich.

Born in Bremen, Northern Germany, Nils is always looking for new challenges. After a zig-zag course through schools, universities and internships he ended up studying graphic design and finished as a graduated graphic designer and worked for labels like Circus Company, Suol, Moodmusic Records, Get Physical, Baalsaal Records / Club to name but a few…

Working for Criminal Records in 2007 he was introduced to Chi-Thien Nguyen &  John Muder (aka Chopstick & Johnjon), the labelheads. Having worked on his own tracks in Reason as a hobby for a long time he started a studio session with John Muder and it clicked. Together they formed the duo Penner+Muder and finished their first demo within one month. Two tracks off this demo was signed by Moodmusic Records from Berlin and the first 12inch “Are You Lost” was released in 2008. Besides working on new material Nils and John managed to arrange a live-set which got a well attended premiere at a Moodmusic night at the Panorama Bar in Berlin. Living seperately in Hamburg and Berlin Nils and John finished their first full length album also for Moodmusic Records. That one saw the light of day in 2010.

In the beginning of 2011 it was time for Nils to start his own label called Wazi Wazi accompanied by Klas Lindblad, who in the meantime left the label to concentrate on Moodmusic. Wazi Wazi is growing ever since and has reached release #11 at this point. Besides that Nils is still heavily busy as a graphic-designer and sometimes shows up at well picked occasions as a credible 50s 60s rhythm and blues, rock’n’roll and soul dj.

Champloo Music Podcast #07 with DETROIT SWINDLE

Our 7th episode of the Champloo Music Podcast comes with two very talented guys from the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam. Together they form the musical project „Detroit Swindle“.

Detroit Swindle consist of Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets, 2 guys that, without actually growing up together, have had practically an identical musical upbringing. A vibrant mix of Motown-soul, funk, hiphop and jazz inspired them from an early age on and after a varied exploration through techno and house, they met each other by mutual interest in Detroit inspired deephouse.

Detroit Swindle have a clear vision on the music they produce and play. If you can’t nod your head to it, it’s probably not theirs and they probably won’t like it. Their productions are best described as contemporary interpretations of classic soul tracks with melodical grooves, jazzy chords and bumpy bass-lines. So in short, if Marvin Gaye would have made house music, they would have been his biggest fans.

2012 is the year of their first releases. With their ‘Starvin EP’ on Saints & Sonnets, they place themselves amongst highly acclaimed artists like Roman Flügel or Ethyl and Huxley. The second EP of 2012 comes out on Dirt Crew, a legendary deephouse label that needs no introduction and publishes artists like Chymera, Tigerskin or Till von Sein. They are currently working on several remixes and releases, and are experimenting with their DJ/live performance.

Our new Champloo Music Podcast #06 is made by Eleftherios Kousakis aka Elef.

Elef, born 1988 in the heart of the german Ruhrarea was always addicted to music. By his father he got early in touch with House- and Dancemusic, strongly influenced by Chicago and Detroit Sounds. Meanwhile Elef is based in world’s music city Berlin and is known in the global house scene for his particular style of synth based and motor city flavoured house music.

Elef’s homebase for his musical output is the Berlin based imprint DIRT CREW RECORDINGS. His ep’s on Dirt Crew „pardon“ and „keep it physical“ were highly sucsessful as well as his guest ep’s on labels like Fresh Meat Records, Consistent and Hypercolour Recordings. His tracks were charted and played across the board by the likes of Laurant Garnier, youANDme, Robert Owens, Axel Boman, Osunlade, Brother’s vibe, to name just a few.

Never not working is Elef’s device, so that you can always look forward to new Elef jams!

Champloo Music Podcast #05 with SIGGI TUNEZIA

Our fifth podcast plays Siggi Tunezia from Offenbach. Siggi’s one of those increasingly rare „vinyl only“ advocates and that’s the reason why our 5th Champloo Podcast was made with the pure magic of the “black gold”!

Siggi’s roots lie in the 90’s hip hop and the funk and soul record collection of his father. These influences are reflected, not only in his DJ sets, but also back in his productions under his alias „Siggatunez“. Soul and hip-hop hits, combined with unique house elements, creating it’s own sound aesthetic.

In early 2010, together with two fellow musicians, Siggi startedthe event series „SUCIO“ at the legendary Café KOZ in Frankfurt am Main. The weekly event has become a platform for musicians and music lovers. Artists such as Erbeerschnitzel, Lowtec, Paul David, Michael Ruetten and Jay Owen contribute their part for the typical character and atmosphere of „SUCIO“.

Till is a typical urban kid; growing up in the nineties with skateboarding and hip hop, he was running his own street wear shop for seven years until he in 2006 decided to focus 100% on his music career.

His heart and dedication, however, is to be found in dj’ing. For the past two years he has been travelling all over the world never letting the dancefloor down.
A dj set from Till Von Sein is soulful and pop infused, you for sure never know what you are gonna get – only thing certain is, that it will be some wicked stuff.
